Novikov Bar & Restaurant

Restaurateur Arkady Anatolievich Novikov’s baby Novikov Restaurant & Bar combines cool and contemporary interiors with a superlative culinary offering.

exterior-2This spacious Mayfair venue was Arkady Novikov’s first foray into the London restaurant scene. A prolific restaurateur, Novikov now has three others in the capital – Rextail, Brompton Asian Brasserie and Bocconcino – to go alongside the 50 or so back in Russia.

Novikov, which opened in the year 2012, apparently is on GBP one million pound rent and was done up by spending another GBP 10 million pounds. Novikov Restaurant & Bar has two distinct restaurants and one stylish Lounge Bar and can accommodate over 540 guests at a time. A real feature of the Novikov Asian Restaurant is its open kitchen. Fronted by an amazing display of eye popping variety of seafood and vegetables, it evokes the atmosphere of an Asian food market. The atmosphere here is at once welcoming and relaxing, but subtle enough not to distract from the food itself. The menu uses novel flavours and texture combinations, inspired by Chinese and Pan Asian cuisine.

Novikov’s drinks list features a range of champagnes from the big-name houses, wines with an old world slant and a selection of cocktails including the venue’s own signature martini made with Stolichnoya Elit vodka, Noilly Prat dry vermouth and caviar bitter crafted in house. There’s a private jet menu too, should you need dinner delivered straight to the runway.

The Asian restaurant specialises in Chinese and Pan Asian cuisine, with a menu designed by highly skilled and experienced Japanese-trained Head Chef Jeff Tyler. Tyler is known for his love of experimenting with different textures, flavours and ingredients, a talent that is much in evidence in dishes such as King Crab with Penang Sauce and Pork Belly with Spicy Glaze.

veggies-with-dipWe were served couple of portions of roasted nuts and vegetables (French beans, baby turnips, snow peas, baby corn and plum tomatoes) with sauce on the house to start our dinner.

We ordered a variety of dishes – Chicken Morel Siu Mai, Thai Chicken, Salt and Pepper Tofu, Tune Avocado Cucumber, California Rolls, Prawn Tempura, Salmon Sushi, Silken Tofu with Winter Vegetables, Chicken Wantons Fried, Egg Fried Rice, Singapore Noodles, Szechuan Prawns and Nutella Cheese Cake served with Cherry Sorbet and Chocolate Ice Cream for desserts. For drinks, we ordered couple of Grey Goose’s and a Sicilian white.

The food presentation and taste was superlative and you realize why who’s who in London come to this restaurant. It is not everyday one gets an opportunity to dine in restaurants like this, with L.N. Mittal sitting on the next table. Well, I got this one!
