We recently had lunch in Biryani Blues restaurant, tucked away in Scindia Block of Connaught Place. The restaurant, which is in two levels is decorated adhering to the colour blue and is quite nice to be in, once you are out of the chaos of CP.
Our order was Mutton Dum Biryani and a portion of Mutton Shikampur and couple of thirst quenchers. Mutton Shikampur,as the menu describes, is lentil-based deep fried patties of ground mutton stuffed with yogurt and onions (green chillies in the authentic recipe which was prescribed for the royalty) and resembles a mutton shami kebab. A portion had six kebabs and they were good – full of flavour, tender to bite into and absolutely non-oily. We loved the texture and mild flavour of this kebab.
The Mutton Biryani was fragrant and cooked to perfection – an ultimate ode to cooking the rice. The dum biryani was served with two perfect accompaniments –curd chutney and mirchi ka salan. Like all Hyderabadi biryanis, this came with two halves of a boiled egg on the top garnished with some browned onions and chopped green coriander leaves. I only wish the mutton pieces were little more substantial.
I found that compared to the original recipe, this restaurant has cleverly toned down the spiciness of the dishes without losing the authentic touch. We loved it. I am sure you will too!
